YOUTH MINISTRIES
WHY?
[+]Our aim is to teach youth how the Scriptures inform all of life in a way that shows the Bible's true focus: Christ. Through relationships, teaching, outings, retreats, games, and prayer, we strive to help our youth see their own sinfulness and need of the only Savior: Jesus Christ. In a way that speaks to them in their particular generation and connects them with every other generation in the church. We desire to see the youth of Eugene cling to Christ for salvation, to grow in the knowledge and grace of the Lord, and join the Church as a member of His Body, to receive the means of grace: prayer, the preached Word, and the Sacraments.WHO, WHEN & WHERE?

[+]For the 2012-2013 school year we are studying a few different topics.
Wednesday Youth Group - This year we are studying the Sermon on the Mount as we explore Christ's words to his disciples of what life in the Kingdom should look like. Entering through the Beattitudes into how we should live in society, how to conduct our religious life, understanding the depth of God's law, and the challenge to walk the narrow path of discipleship, we will continually be led back to the Beattitudes themselves, a bankrupt spirit, mourning sin, humility, and a hunger for righteousness.
High School Small Group - We are beginning a new study this year as we look at the book of Revelation. It can be a mysterious book that many in the church today run from assuming it is difficult to understand. At the core the Revelation is one of the easiest books of the Bible to understand: Christ Rules, God Wins! It is from this vantage point that we will study the Revelation and how it applies to us as Christians today (spoiler alert, it does apply to us today).
Sunday School: We are continuing our study of the Westminster Confession of Faith and Catechisms. As the documents that our church holds to as the best and most concise theology of the Christian Faith, putting into rich statements what the Bible teaches concerning, God, Man, Sin, Christ and His work, it's application to us, and the world to come, we study these documents to know what we believe and why. At its essence the Confession and Catechisms teach us: What is Truth, How Am I Right With God, How Should I Live In Light of This, and What Does It Mean In the End.
WINTER RETREAT, 2012
[+]Another year’s Youth Retreat has come and gone.
It was a blast, and a big one at that. 22 youth, 5 adults, three bedrooms, 4 beds, and a lot of floor coverage. Thankfully the young men acted as such and gladly gave up the bedrooms and beds to the young ladies.
Existing friendships were strengthened, new ones were formed, none were lost. We came, we ate, we learned, we walked, we drank caffeine. It was very enjoyable to partake of Rev. Parker’s infamous chili, though it was very sad to see the leftovers go to waste.
We began by a scenic drive to the coast, and after unloading and assigning rooms, we went out onto the beach where we were greeted by a bonfire (thanks Thomas) which we used to roast hot dogs paired with Mrs. Colleen’s amazing broccoli salad. After a short time on the beach we returned to the house for a game of sardines and a movie. After breakfast (peanut butter and chocolate chip pancakes) we had a time of teaching as we looked at the You-Tube craze spoken word poem “Why I Love Jesus, But Hate Religion” in both its high points against false religion, and the low points in presenting a faulty view of the Church. After a round of Bigger and Better we walked to the beach where we played a great game of Ultimate Frisbee. After dinner, we looked at Lecrae’s Song “The Bride” and how it gives us a better view of the Church that Christ died to purchase. After a game of Capture the flag it was off to bed to awake for a morning worship service led by Pastor Kyle.
We took the long way home along the coastal highway, and stopped in Florence for lunch at Blisses Hot Rod and Grill. It was awesome!
